Cancer Survivor Clinic
Introduction of department
Due to advances in cancer treatment and diagnostic technology, public efforts to prevent cancer, and early check-ups, the survival rate of cancer in Korea continues to rise, and the number of cancer survivors is on the rise. The 5-year relative survival rate after treatment for all cancers from 2014 to 2018 is 70.3%, and it is estimated that 7 out of 10 cancer patients will survive for more than 5 years.
However, those who have completed surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy (cancer survivors) after cancer diagnosis experience various physical, mental, and social difficulties after treatment, and experience difficulties in daily life due to distress such as anxiety and depression about recurrence or metastasis and aftereffects of treatment. As part of the national cancer management project, the "Cancer Survivor Clinic" has been opened and operated at Kyungpook National University Chilgok Hospital since 2021 for cancer survivors who has difficulties in returning to their daily lives after cancer treatment.
