Right to Receive Medical Care
Patients have the right to receive appropriate healthcare services for the protection and improvement of their health without discrimination based on gender, age, religion, social status, or economic circumstances. Healthcare providers cannot refuse treatment without just cause.
Right to Information and Self-Determination
Patients have the right to receive sufficient explanations from their attending doctors, nurses, etc., regarding their medical condition, treatment methods, participation in medical research, organ transplantation, potential side effects, expected outcomes, and treatment costs. They have the right to ask detailed questions and make decisions regarding consent.
Right to Confidentiality
Patients’ personal and medical information shall remain confidential. Healthcare providers and institutions cannot disclose or announce such information without patient consent, except as required by law or for criminal investigations.
Right to Request Consultation and Mediation
In case of medical disputes, patients may request consultation and mediation through organizations such as the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency
Right to Safe Medical Environment
Patients have the right to receive medical care in facilities where medical information is protected, and patient safety is maintained
Patient Responsibilities
Obligation to Trust and Respect Healthcare Providers
Patients must provide accurate health information to healthcare providers and trust and respect the treatment plans set by the medical staff.
Obligation Not to Receive Care by Fraudulent Means
Patients must disclose their identity prior to treatment and must not receive treatment under false names or by dishonest means.
