  • Kyungpook National University Chilgok  Hospital (President Park Sung Sik) conducted medical volunteer activities from November 3 to November 7, 2023, in Bukhara and Samarkand, Uzbekistan, areas with limited access to medical care. This outreach provided essential healthcare services to vulnerable populations in the region.

  • As the first overseas medical volunteer mission since the COVID-19 pandemic, a team of 33 healthcare professionals from departments including Rehabilitation Medicine, Neurosurgery, Rheumatology, Radiology, Obstetrics, and Dentistry provided treatment to a total of 700 patients.

  • Notably, the team performed neurosurgical operations on four patients, including children with hydrocephalus who could not access adequate treatment locally, bringing hope to these patients and their families. Additionally, the team conducted a hydrocephalus masterclass to educate local medical staff.

  • Through this volunteer mission, Chilgok Kyungpook National University Hospital also advanced partnerships by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Samarkand State Medical University and Bukhara State Medical Institute for the establishment of Rehabilitation Medicine departments and medical education. The hospital also agreed to establish a telemedicine and follow-up care center in collaboration with Bukhara Himchan Hospital in Uzbekistan.

  • President Park Sung Sik stated, “As a leading institution in Central Asia healthcare cooperation, Kyungpook National University Chilgok Hospital is committed to promoting the excellence of Korean medicine globally.
